Are you feeding your mind?
We never forget to feed out stomach, but when was the last time you fed your mind?
Mind versus rest of the body
I remember listening to Zig Ziglar’s a while back. He made a good point about feeding our mind. He was mentioning some research that indicated that income capacity for our body below the neck is about $300 a day or so (this was in 80s if not earlier as well) while the income capacity with our minds, above the neck, is practically unlimited.
And yet we tend to take great care of that $300 a day part of our body while ignoring the mind.
Feeding the body versus feeding the mind
God forbid if we ever miss a meal. We tend to let everyone know about it. Reason I even thought about this today was because I had missed my breakfast. So, as soon as I came to work, I let my friends here know that I wanted to have my breakfast first since I had missed it!
But no one bothers to let anyone know if they haven’t fed their mind. Majority of the people do not feed their minds. If they do, then it’s all negative information which we all are getting from media, and other negative people around our work.
Workplace is notorious for negativity! You can never have a good enough boss, or a good enough colleague it seems. There is always something to complain about.
I’ve fallen for that many times and it seems like quite a challenge to remain positive in the midst of all this negativity.
How do you feed your mind?
So, how exactly do you feed your mind? I think by reading positive books, listening to positive tapes, hanging around with positive people. By far the most effective way is if you hang around with positive people. If you can find a group of like minded positive people then you’ll change your vibrational state very fast.
But in the meantime try your best to keep yourself positive by doing whatever else positive you can do. I listen to my ipod as much as I can. Even when I’m working, headphones are in at least one of my ears.
I don’t have to be listening to every word that’s being played either. I just give myself positive material. When my mind gets tired, then I give it some more.
Usually at work it’s at a low volume but as long as I know it’s there I feel like it’ll help me out.
Also, see if you can stay away from negativity. By that I mean, stop listening to news either on radio or tv, stop watching tv all together if you can, minimize hanging out with your negative friends. It’s tough but no one’s going to come to give you a hand out. It’s all up to you!
Sooner you realize that you’re resposible for every single aspect of your life, better it will be for you and faster you can actually progress in life and be happier.

Yup, spot on. I might add that I also find certain types of music work for me too.
I’m sure it is different for different people, but certain classical tracks help as do some folk songs and, for a get up and go moment, certain specially selected rock tracks. It depends on the situation but ‘Beautiful Day’ and ‘It’s A Wonderful World’ by Sarah Brightman have helped recently.
Taken to its extreme, I believe a combination of affirmations, books, selected music, recordings of great speakers and the right friends would make you unbeatable! Oh, and, yes, stay away from the news as you say!

You’re right. Music also is very good for changing the state of our mind. I’ve found that same songs may not work every single time depending on what state I’m in at the present so it’s good to have different type of songs.
More things we have at our disposal, better it is. Sort of like a toolbox. More tools we have better equipped we are to deal with any kind of situation
